Which Godfather box set is the best?
I am buying The Godfather box set soon and I was wondering which one is the best? The Godfather DVD Collection or The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset. I can't get the blu Ray version since I don't own a Blu Ray player.
That depends on your picture quality preference. The restoration version is brighter than the other DVD versions. The color appears more towards the reddish side in the restored version, while the older version of Part II has a noticeably greenish tint, and part I a yellowish tint. I've included comparisons from DVDBeaver, under sources below.
I bought the Blu-Ray restoration version. (The Restored DVD shares the same prints as the Blu-ray, just at standard definition.) It has cleaner, sharper and brighter images -- but the film grain is more prominent in Part I, since it was a low budget picture shot on grainier film stock. That doesn't bother me, but it does to some people. Part II looks the best I've ever seen it. I haven't watched Part III.
