Log Rack Overview

Log carriers and log baskets make carrying logs much easier. However, you still need to pick the load up. If you are tired of carrying loads of wood, try a log rack with wheels. Load the rack up and wheel it to the fire. The wood is carried in and stacked in the same process.

Log hoops are a great way to stack a lot of firewood in a small amount of space. The circular shape allows the wood to be stacked very efficiently with the continuous sides rather than two wobbly end posts.

how to prepare my fire back for log basket?
hello all, I have decided to put a free standing log basket into my fireplace, the chimney is good and draws well, but all the fire back is bare brick, with the basket sitting in the middle will i need to do anything to the bricks, and if so what?? I was thinking of maybe a skim of fire cement?, or will it need more?, the fire basket will be clear of all the bricks by about 2 inches all round.

I have been in this situation several times and would recommend that you purchase sufficient fire bricks to make a backing to the fire basket. These bricks are about 1" wide x 6" long so they will fit into your available space easily. If you choose not to use these the ordinary bricks will tend to break down quite quickly with the fire source that close. Also can i suggest that if you choose to use coal at any point rather than logs do not use "standard" coal as this will eventually cause the fire basket to buckle or can even burn through it as it burns too hot. The coal designed for enclosed fires or ranges does dot burn at such a high temperature.
